Welcome to the Eurasian Council on Foreign Affairs, a new forum for discussion of the Central Asian region with a presence at the heart of the European Union.
My name is Rauan Kenzhekhanuly and I am the founding Director of the ECFA. Following the very generous welcome from by H.E. Erlan Idrissov, Foreign Minister of Kazakhstan and the first Honorary President of the ECFA, I am delighted to tell you a little more about this exciting new venture.
In the months to come, the ECFA will publish a number of informative and engaging publications, newsletters and bulletins on the economy, society and culture of the Central Asian region – focussing firstly on my country, Kazakhstan – to the venerable institutions and policymakers of the European Union.
A distinguished Advisory Council is currently being assembled and the ECFA’s formal launch is planned for November 2014.
In the meantime, please feel free to browse the ECFA’s multilingual website and its wide range of papers and publications, and subscribe to its electronic mailing list for further updates. I will be providing regular blog posts on the current affairs of the Central Asian region and the EU. The first blog has been offered to Minister Idrissov, whom I take this opportunity to thank for his personal support and for the support of the Government of Kazakhstan that has made the first year’s work programme possible.
I very much look forward to the coming months and welcome you all to this valuable and exciting new resource for Central Asia.
