President of Serbia (2004-2012)
Boris Tadić was elected as President of the Republic of Serbia in 2004, having served as a Member of Parliament, Minister of Telecommunications and Minister of Defence of Serbia and Montenegro.
During his term, President Tadić actively promoted Serbian membership of the European Union. His country signed the Stabilization and Association Agreement with the EU in 2008 and became official candidate for membership in March 2012. Serbia also joined Partnership for Peace Programme (PfP) in 2006.
President Tadić has initiated and actively promoted regional cooperation and reconciliation in Western Balkans. He has been the recipient of a number of prestigious international awards, including the Council of Europe North South Prize, the European Medal on Tolerance, the Quadriga award and others.
